Pain deserves acknowledgement, not repair.
Supporting a grieving person is hard, isn’t it. No matter how good our intentions, the things we say to each other don’t seem to help. Skills in grief support are not something we’re taught. In fact, the things we ARE taught about grief are less than useful.
Grief isn’t something to get through so you can get back to “normal” life. It isn’t a problem that needs to be solved. We don’t need new tools for how to get out of grief, we need to learn the skills for how to withstand it. We need to learn how to love each other better, right there, at the edge of the abyss.
