Things You Should Know About Us
We do this because it matters
Life can be unfathomably hard at times. We do what we do because bringing love (and skills) into the impossible parts of life means everything to us.
We believe that grief is a normal part of life, not a problem to be solved
We don’t subscribe to the widespread belief that grief is an illness needing treatment, or just some unfortunate thing getting in the way of a “normal, happy life.” It’s a lot more useful to talk about how you live inside your loss. How you carry what cannot be fixed. How you survive.
We’re here to change the world
While grief-from-death may be our starting point, it is only the beginning. The way we make the world better, kinder, safer, and more equitable for everyone is to start talking about what hurts. Learning the skills necessary to love and support each other no matter what life brings helps everyone – and we’re in this for the cultural revolution.
We sell things
We’re really proud to make and sell some of the most useful online grief support & education programs in the world. Our goal is to have people learn the skills they need to love themselves – and each other – better.
Selling things is how 98% of this site stays free
We’re relentless in our support of grieving people and those who love them. We’ve made a commitment to produce beautiful, useful free educational content. That free content is funded by what we sell. Don’t begrudge us for marketing our paid courses, trainings, or programs, which allow us to feed our families, give back, and continue to give you the vast majority of our work, free of charge.
Trust is everything
We’re honest with our customers, our audience, and each other. If our courses or programs aren’t right for you, we’ll say so. There’s enough struggle in the world without feeling like you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time. If you’re not sure if what we offer is right for you, please ask, or get to know us by reading our policies and disclaimer.
We love our customers
Though we’re sorry you have need of us, we’re so glad you’re here. You’re the reason we exist. Through your fierce love of yourselves & in your dedication to learn the skills needed to truly support others, you help us create meaningful change in this world. Thank you.
Access Matters
We’re mindful of the privilege stitched into our lives. We strive to make our programs and courses available to those whose financial circumstance would otherwise bar them from participating. We award scholarships to those in need, use our platform to speak on social issues, create free content, and donate a portion of all revenue to socially-aligned, effective non-profits. If you’d like to contribute to the scholarship fund, or help us provide free copies of the book to communities reeling from gun violence or hate crimes, use the yellow button below to make your donation. You’ll be taken to paypal, where you can designate where you’d like funds allocated.
We have a kindness policy
Rudeness, hate-speech, inflammatory comments, threats, and other crappy behavior are not welcome — in our community or from customers. That also extends to any practice of ableism, racism, sexism or any other ism rooted in bigotry and hate. If you’re a jerk, you’ll get booted – no discussion first.
Tech issues annoy us, too
We’ve worked hard to make beautiful, useful, supportive things for you. We WANT you to be successful in listening, watching, participating. We want you to get the help you need. Check here for answers to common tech troubles.
We’re not for everyone
There’s no one size fits all in grief, and we’re not for everyone. The humor here is sharp, quick, and dark. We aren’t religious. We aren’t part of the positive psychology movement. We point out flaws where we find them. Swearing is not uncommon – from our team, from Megan, and in our communities. If what we do here isn’t for you, please keep looking for what’s right. You deserve to have love & support.
